Summer Glacier

Editorial

The content of this article explains the journey of hiking the Grinnel Glacier trail in Glacier National Park, Montana. To elicit the feeling of both the hot and cold environment that one experiences on this trail, I chose my color palette to involve both warm and cool colors being bright orange and light grey. Also, the photos of this trail involve vivid colors so the grey tones it down as well and creates a color balance. I created an open layout incorporating white space to go with the content of the article about being in wide, open nature. For the title, I chose a blocky san serif typeface to give a sporty look because this article does involve a rigorous and active trail. Furthermore, as for the typeface of the content of the article, I used a smaller and more detailed serif font to compliment the title and quote.

For the support spread, I incorporated the same size, typeface, and color of the lead spread's title for the starting letter, M to carry on the boldness and brightness. To create variety throughout the images, I chose to use different sizes of scale varying from small, medium and large from left to right of the spread. For the statistics of the trail, I kept the cohesiveness of the spreads by using the same typeface, size, and color of the quote from the lead spread. Lastly, I broke up the type on the second page to create variety, white space, and help the reader not be visually intimidated by large, blocky paragraphs.
